The ongoing longtime partnership of the statutory city of Olomouc with the city of Subotica, part of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, was further developed in the year 2002 by the Olomouc Region with the signing of an Agreement on cooperation between the Olomouc Region and the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina.
Since 2008 the Olomouc Region is active in the field of development cooperation and has implemented in its partner region of Vojvodina diverse projects which have been supported by funding from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic within the scope of the Czech Republic Development Cooperation program.
In the year 2008 the Olomouc Region implemented in cooperation with the region’s non-profit Agency for Development Assistance and Humanitarian Aid and consulting firm ROSIVA Šumperk s.r.o. a project named “Building up capacities of local government, civil society organizations and private sector in AP Vojvodina”, which included a seminar in Backa Topola focused on building up capacities of the local government, civil society organizations and private sector and a study tour of representatives from institutions in Vojvodina to the Olomouc Region. A positive evaluation of this project resulted in a follow-up project in 2009 under the name of “Education and development in AP Vojvodina”.
The aim of the project “Education and development in AP Vojvodina” is primarily to support partner institutions in local government and self administration, support to civil society organizations and institutions of cultural, social, medical, scholastic and research character. Activities and outputs of the project are focused on the transfer of know-how, sharing of experience with economic and social transformation and strengthening capacities to achieve a high standard of administration of public affairs (so-called “good governance”) and finally the Czech Republic’s experience with EU membership.
The project is composed of two 3-day workshops for representatives of local governments, administration and non-profit sector in AP Vojvodina. The primary topics of the workshops will be sharing experience from regional-level transformation with respect to identified areas, utilizing pre-accession EU funds, project management, function of platforms and forms of cooperation among public sector and NGOs.
A supporting activity to the entire project will be an exposition of photographs depicting the cultural heritage of the Olomouc Region. The ceremonial opening of the exposition will take place during the first workshop and will be accompanied by a bilingual publication (Czech and Serbian).
The project is funded by the budget of the Olomouc Region and supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic within the scope of the Czech Republic Development Cooperation program.
